The Benefits of Sclerotherapy

Do you want to treat unhealthy leg veins without the hassle of surgery? Sclerotherapy - Injection treatment for the reduction of small varicose veins and spider veins could be for you...

What is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a nonsurgical procedure designed to treat small varicose veins and spider veins. Unlike open surgery, the problematic veins aren’t cut out or removed. Instead, sclerosing liquid, is injected through an extremely fine needle, causing microscopic damage to the cells lining the vein. This solution creates swelling that closes off the veins, which then prohibits blood from flowing through them. As a result, blood is rerouted through healthier veins, and your body eventually absorbs the discoloured, swollen veins.

The Benefits of Sclerotherapy

Spider veins and varicose veins often draw unwanted attention. If this is damaging your confidence or preventing you from wearing some of your favorite types of clothing, this may be the ideal solution. The treatment provides you with the appearance you desire and can improve your symptoms. The benefits of the procedure include:

1. Cosmetic Benefits

The main benefit of the treatment is improving the cosmetic look of your legs. The bulging and blue veins can be eliminated to provide you with a much healthier and smoother appearance. A lot of people will not wear shorts, dresses, skirts or swimwear due to unwanted veins. After your treatment, you can wear the clothing you want. The procedure is usually completed in 15 to 20 minutes, and normal daily activities can be resumed immediately. Appointment times are shown when booking your treatment online.

3. Its Precise

Thanks to ultrasound guidance, we can administer the sclerosant exactly where it needs to go, even if the problematic vein is deep underneath your skin.

4. Easy & Quick Recovery Period

Because sclerotherapy isn’t surgery, you won’t have a lengthy recovery period. You’ll still need to follow your post-procedure instructions (listed below), but there’s no need to care for stitches or incision sites. We will provide all aftercare instructions, including ensuring you wear compression hosiery. These stockings keep the right pressure on the treated veins and prevent blood clots.

5. Side Effects are Minimal

The most common side effects include itching and redness at the injection site. These are temporary and often dissipate in a day or two

6. It Provides Pain Relief

Whilst most cases of spider veins are a cosmetic problem, in some patients they can cause aching and pain in the affected limbs. Sclerotherapy can relieve these symptoms.

7. Sclerotherapy is Highly Effective

Most patients are generally satisfied with their results from sclerotherapy with as many as 50-80% of injected veins disappearing in a single treatment. Spider veins typically fade in three to six weeks. Large veins or varicose veins tend to disappear in three to four months. This treatment can provide a permanent solution. However if new unsightly veins appear, you may need to return for additional treatment.
