Botox is a brand of Botulininum Toxin A and is the UK’s most popular cosmetic treatment for the removal of wrinkles. At Pure Aesthetics in Nottingham, we only use approved, safe and trusted Botox brands. We are also experienced in dermal fillers. We offer a free no obligation consultation with one of our experienced aesthetic nurses at our comfortable Nottingham Botox clinic.

How Does Botox Work

As skin ages, it loses its ability to maintain moisture and less oil is produced which makes it slower to heal. The skin’s nerve endings releases an organic chemical substance called acetylcholine, which transmits contraction information to the muscle which affect the skin’s stretchiness and create wrinkles. For nearly two decades, Botulinum Toxin of which Botox® is a trade name of a product made by Allergen, has been successfully used cosmetically to treat facial wrinkles. It temporarily blocks the release of acetylcholine, relaxes the muscle and reduces the wrinkle.

Anti-Wrinkle Treatments We Offer

At Pure Aesthetics in Nottingham, the three main types of wrinkles that we treat to successfully reduce the sign of ageing with Botulinum Toxin are in the following places:

Frown Lines
These are vertical frown wrinkles, also known as Glabella lines, that are most common in patients whose skin has had excessive exposure to the sun or caused by emotions such as anger or fear. Frown lines can be successfully treated with Botox.

Eye Wrinkles and Laughter Lines
Often referred to as crow’s feet – these wrinkles and lines are in the outer corner of the eyes and become more prominent when laughing or smiling. Eye wrinkles and laughter lines are formed when the skin becomes less elastic with age or because of excessive exposure to the sun. Eye wrinkles and laughter Lines can be successfully treated with Botox.

Forehead Wrinkles
These tend to be horizontal lines that appear between the hairline and eyebrows that occur during facial expression and are otherwise known as worry lines. Forehead wrinkles are formed when conveying emotions such as surprise or sympathy. Forehead wrinkles can be successfully treated with Botox.

Is Botox Safe?

The amount of Botulinum Toxin A that is used is very safe as it is administered in very small doses into muscles and sweat glands and does not reach any other part of the body. Using a few tiny needle injections, it usually takes around 15 minutes and is largely pain-free.

There is no anaesthetic required as the toxin weakens the muscles that are responsible for the wrinkles and reverses the lines that appear when you smile, frown or animate your face. There are some wrinkles, such as static ones, that can be improved with Botox® but they may, otherwise, be better treated with dermal fillers – another treatment we offer here at Pure Aesthetics.

Botox is very effective and has a fantastic safety record. It has been used successfully in adults and children for a wide range of medical conditions for more than two decades but Botox is now much more commonly used cosmetically to treat lines and wrinkles.

Cheap botox isn't necessarily good so make sure you use a qualified and experienced clinic.

When do you start seeing results?

Patients can start seeing visible results within three to seven days of their Botox® injections. Treatments at our clinic are not permanent and re-treatment will be required around every three to four months and longer for many patients, especially if the same area is repeated. We offer a free follow-up treatment and a free two-week post treatment.

Having Botox® does not mean your facial expression will disappear. This type of treatment is only designed to smooth lines and wrinkles and does not affect facial expressions.

Who can have Botox?

Women and men can both benefit from anti-wrinkle Botox® injections. You have to be over the age of 18 to have any of our treatments at our Nottingham Botox® clinic.

Who cannot have Botox?

Anti-wrinkle Botox injections should not be used by women who are pregnant or breast feeding or by people with muscle problems or chronic diseases. Treatment at our Botox clinic is not administered if the injection site is infected or if the patient is allergic to any of the ingredients. Children under the age of 18 cannot be given Botox treatment.

Possible Side Effects

Any side effects from Botox are usually short-lived. It can be common to suffer pain or tenderness to the site of the injection immediately after the injection but this usually subsides within 48 hours. It is also possible to experience slight bruising but is very rare. Some patients report mild headaches that tend to subside within a day. An allergic reaction to Botox may occur but is highly unlikely.

After Botox has been administered it is advised to contract the treated muscle areas by frowning and lifting your eyebrows to ensure the Botulinum Toxin reaches all the treated areas which should not be rubbed or touched.

Facials and massages, as well as exercise and alcohol, should be avoided for at least 48 hours after Botox treatment. Arnica cream can be applied if bruising develops and paracetamol may be taken for mild pain post procedure.
